Brief

Mini Garden Order / Proposal 3, 4, & 5

The brief was for a holiday Ibiza vibe garden-style. Not all arid climate plants are adaptable to the UK, therefore, the desired vibe had to be achieved through minimalistic design. Materials included stone, textured concrete, and decking finishes. The brief also requested an exercise area, storage, gathering area, and possibly shelter from the neighbors.

The second challenge arose from the size and layout of the garden. The site is a small London townhouse garden with a garden office opposite the patio doors, and therefore, it does not have the usual garden views and space. The missing back panoramic view and the current crossing through the middle to access the office did not leave much space for comfortable-sized zones with functional design. There, I developed 3 different proposals - some defining the exact zones required by the client for exercise and storage, e.g.; one offered an open, flexible space with a less defined feel still providing function.

The main objective of all three proposals was to increase the grade visually. It did so by elongating the space with an additional wall as an integrated bench or water feature, which creates a new layout and hides the office with a new view.

Proposal 3 has two levels to define two zones. The first is immediately out of the kitchen patio doors and has an armchair and concrete bench for morning daily use, as well as a decking surface for exercise. The second area is for entertainment, with a shelter, seating, and water feature.
