project 1 - Richmond Upon Thames

< Classic and Contemporary >

brief

The client required a classic contemporary garden. The design formed linear perspective layouts and structured lines in layering the vegetation at different heights. The centerpiece of the garden design is a large granite water feature, with a surrounding of cobbled paving seemingly forming a square-like area. Embedded in the cobbles are two Amelanchier Lamarckii trees that create a strong sculptured look. Being deciduous, those two trees bring a dramatically different look to the garden with the changes in the seasons. The water feature defines the layout and shapes the perspective view. There are two seating areas-the formal patio and a fire pit in a secluded back zone used at parties or late evenings.
